Over the last eight and a half years, I've worked with one of Chicago's top wonks, Commissioner Mike Quigley, to write reports and find ways to make Cook County more efficient, accountable, and transparent. If these recommendations would have been followed, there would have been no need for last year's sales tax increase, or the millions in new borrowing requested by the Board President.
We can make Cook County Government smarter and stronger. We can save more than $130 million every year by cutting waste and patronage, by going green, and by focusing our money on the people who need it most, not the people who pull the strings.
The Chicago Tribune called me a "whip-smart policy wonk" because they know what it's going to take to reinvent and reform Cook County Government. It's going to take a real leader who is not afraid to fight the hard fight, and who will always fight for you.
